Contrary to its shallow and often negative reputation, opportunism can be a deeply intelligent quality.
What we usually criticise as “opportunism”— and rightfully so— is often nothing more than shortsightedness, selfishness, or ignorance, rather than a wise and constructive understanding of life’s possibilities.
A truly wise person is, in the deepest sense, highly opportunistic. To them, life itself, with all its bitter and sweet moments, with all its kind and difficult people, is an opportunity.
Kind and loving people are opportunities to learn warmth, to gain strength and support, and to move through life with greater energy and joy.
Deceitful, jealous, or hurtful people are opportunities to recognise your own weaknesses, to learn the art of patience or resistance, to protect yourself better, and to become stronger, wiser, and more resilient.
Every event that happens, every obstacle placed in your path, and every person you encounter is an opportunity, if only you can recognise it for what it is.
