The Perpetual Longing

forumNo Comments

There is within the human being a love, a pain, a thorn, a restlessness, a longing
so intense that even if he were given a hundred thousand worlds, he would not find peace, nor would he be at ease.

He strives in every profession, every craft, every position; he studies the stars, medicine, and other sciences— yet still he finds no rest.  Why?

Because what he truly seeks has not been attained. After all, the Beloved is called “the one who brings peace to the heart”— that is, the heart finds its calm in Him.
So how could the heart find peace in anything other than Him?
