How Could a Psychologist Possibly Help?

forumNo Comments

“But what can a psychologist possibly do for me? How can a counsellor solve my problems? My issue is financial, work-related, practical—what does any of this have to do with psychology or counselling? Seeing a psychologist is pointless. The real problem needs to be solved…

The issue here is that these individuals lack sufficient self-awareness. They don’t understand the nature and root of their suffering. They are unaware of what is truly causing their distress. Yes, the core problem must be addressed—but they have mistaken what the real problem is. They assume that the issue they are struggling with is something purely external—a problem related to work, income, relationships, or separation. But in reality, what causes human suffering is not the problems or challenges themselves, but rather our perspective, our level of self-belief, and our capacity to deal with difficulties.

Remember: Every problem seems big in proportion to your strength. It feels painful in proportion to your vulnerability. It feels overwhelming in proportion to your capabilities…

A psychologist may not be able to fix your external problem, but they can help you become more aware, stronger, and more capable. A wise and compassionate counsellor equips you with the art, wisdom, and capacity to face challenges. The counsellor addresses the problem within you. Problems come and go—but what stays with you is your inner wisdom and self-belief.

No problem is inherently big or small. What makes a problem feel big or small is whether or not it shatters your sense of self. That is your real and ultimate challenge.
